We run a wide variety of art activities that help people change their lives for the better.
Currently running projects:
Colours From The People
Project “Colours from the people” granted (£9932) by the Awards For All, Big Lottery Fund, to help educate asylum seekers about British values and culture by looking at the most expressive aspect and medium of our society which is art.
The high numbers of asylum seekers and refugees are isolated in the communities they live in and do not mix with the host community or access any local services. This is due to language barriers, a lack of money and confidence. Project will help asylum seekers and refugees to come together with local people in an art environment. This will help to break down barriers and create confidence in building social relationships.
Projects in the past:
Art Light
United Leicester
This project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the painting class is held every Thursday at 13.00-16.00 at Holy Cross Centre, 45 Wellington Street, Leicester, LE1 6HW.
Project provide an opportunity for the elderly, disabled, unemployed and asylum seekers to produce paintings which will ultimately be showcased in an exhibition at the project’s end under the project name of “Art Light”.
The outcome of this project will be to renew the participants' self-worth and confidence through the art they produce, helping them lead an independent and confident life in the future as creative individuals, and build stronger communities.
This project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the painting class is held every Monday at 13.00-16.00 at St Martins House. There is a friendly, calming atmosphere where people are free to express themselves through art. Individuals are given the opportunity to learn and improve their painting skills, whilst socialising and supporting each other.
